About Saint-Colomban-des-Villards

Saint-Colomban-des-Villards is a quiet, family-friendly village at 1,100 m in Maurienne. Historically linked to the Sybelles, the resort lost its ski-in, ski-out connection to the large ski area from the 2025/2026 winter, for economic and regulatory reasons. It now offers free skiing on its snow front (the Épinette and Rogemont drag lifts and the Ourson conveyor), and remains a peaceful base for snowshoeing and hiking in Maurienne.

Did you know?
Nestled in the Villards valley, where the Glandon meets the road over the pass of the same name, the village long lived apart – the local Colognons patois was still spoken there.
Its connection to the Sybelles ski area in December 2003 suddenly turned this small village of a handful of drag lifts into one of France's largest linked ski areas.

✍️ Our view of Saint-Colomban-des-Villards

Saint-Colomban-des-Villards is one of the few resorts offering more than 310 km of pistes – a vast area that even the fastest skiers can't cover in a week. With 61 lifts and 3 runs listed, it is a destination that can absorb all kinds of tourist traffic without ever feeling crowded. The family reputation of Saint-Colomban-des-Villards is well deserved: dedicated beginner areas, well-maintained green runs and a good-natured atmosphere at the foot of the lifts. It is one of the most reassuring resorts in the Northern Alps for laying the foundations of skiing with children. The moderate altitude of Saint-Colomban-des-Villards – starting at 1,100 m, with the summit at 1,600 m – makes it sensitive to climate variations. January and February remain the safest months for optimal snow cover. Outside this window, checking snow reports before departure is strongly advised. With a day lift pass at just 0€, Saint-Colomban-des-Villards is one of the most accessible destinations in France. For families on a tight budget, or skiers who want to make the most of their days without breaking the bank, it is a genuine and often overlooked gem. In short, Saint-Colomban-des-Villards is one of those rare resorts that combines a real village, a sincerely family atmosphere and runs suited to everyone. It would be hard to have a bad stay here.

Six Maurienne resorts that merged their ski areas in 2003 around the Ouillon summit, instantly creating one of France's largest ski areas. La Toussuire, Le Corbier, Saint-Sorlin-d'Arves, Saint-Jean-d'Arves, Les Bottières and Saint-Colomban share the same lift pass and the same runs — it is impossible to tell where one ends and the next begins. It is a very sunny ski area, dominated by the silhouette of the Aiguilles d'Arves, with a majority of blue and red runs that make it an ideal place to progress as a family. Prices remain noticeably gentler than in the big Tarentaise resorts.
