Did you know?
Here is a resort born of a utopia: created in the mid-1970s by Pierre Lainé, a figure of social tourism, it was designed not for profit but for sharing — no property speculation, no cars, all-inclusive stays in holiday villages.
The model has remained unique in France: the land belongs to the commune of Montricher-Albanne, and the shops and restaurants are run as a cooperative.

✍️ Our opinion of Les Karellis

A resort on a human scale, Les Karellis focuses on the quality of welcome and closeness rather than impressive figures. Its 60 km of runs are ideal for a stay of 3 to 4 days, especially for families or skiers who do not need to constantly change their playground. The family reputation of Les Karellis is well deserved: dedicated beginner areas, a well-organised childcare service, well-groomed green runs and a good-natured atmosphere at the foot of the lifts. It is one of the most reassuring resorts in the Northern Alps for laying the foundations of skiing with children. With a summit at 2,520 m and a village at 1,600 m, snow reliability at Les Karellis is generally dependable from January to the end of March. A few exceptionally mild winters can create tension early in the season, but the situation recovers quickly with the first substantial snowfalls. The day lift pass at 35€ remains reasonable for the quality of the ski area on offer. Counting accommodation, skiing and meals, Les Karellis suits those who want a great week without the final bill knocking them off their chair. In short: Les Karellis keeps its promises. A resort in the Northern Alps that will suit most profiles without disappointing.
