ℹ️ These figures refer to the Grandvalira ski area, shared by several resorts: kilometres of runs, number of runs, lifts and lift pass are common to all of them. The values shown here and on the pages of neighbouring resorts therefore refer to the same ski area and the same lift pass: they are not added together.

About Canillo

The 215 km, 74 lifts and lift pass shown are those of the entire Grandvalira ski area, shared by its six sectors (Pas de la Casa, Grau Roig, Soldeu, El Tarter, Canillo and Encamp). Canillo is a valley village at 1,530 m, linked to the Grandvalira ski area by a gondola that climbs to the El Forn sector. You stay here quietly and often for less than at the top of the slopes, but the return to the village is by gondola, not on skis. Canillo is also home to the Palau de Gel, an Olympic-sized ice rink, handy for days without skiing.

✍️ Our verdict on Canillo

The Canillo ski area, with its 215 km of runs, offers a good choice for every type of skier: big enough not to go round in circles for a week, yet compact enough to find your favourite sectors easily. The 74 lifts let you link runs together without long queues. Canillo's family reputation is well deserved: dedicated beginner areas, a well-run childcare service, well-groomed green runs and a friendly atmosphere at the foot of the lifts. It is one of the most reassuring resorts in the Pyrenees for building the basics of skiing with children. With a summit at 2,640 m and a village at 1,530 m, snow reliability at Canillo is generally good from January to the end of March. A few exceptionally mild winters can cause shortages early in the season, but the situation recovers quickly once the first decent snowfalls arrive. A stay in Canillo is clearly expensive: a 69€ day lift pass, plus accommodation and mountain restaurants that are among the most expensive in the Alps. That is the price of excellence — but you should be aware of it before setting off. In short: Canillo is one of the rare resorts that combines a real village, a genuinely family atmosphere and runs suited to everyone. It's hard to get your holiday wrong here.

🏔️ Grandvalira

Grandvalira is the largest ski area in the Pyrenees: 215 km of runs between 1710 and 2,640 m, linking from east to west Pas de la Casa, on the French border, Grau Roig, Soldeu and El Tarter, while Canillo and Encamp are reached by gondola from the valley. The area hosted the Alpine Skiing World Cup finals in 2019 on the Avet run at Soldeu. Each sector has its own personality, from the lively, technical Pas de la Casa to the more family-friendly El Tarter, and Andorra adds its own perks: plenty of accommodation and duty-free shops.
