Sixt-Fer-à-Cheval is a ski resort in the Northern Alps range, in the Grand Massif, Haute-Savoie. The area extends over 15 km of runs between 770 m and 1,600 m, served by 4 lifts. Day lift pass €16 per adult.

ℹ️ These figures relate to the Grand Massif Villages (Les Carroz – Morillon – Samoëns – Sixt) ski area, which is shared by several resorts: kilometres of runs, number of runs, lifts and lift pass are common to all of them. The values shown here and on the pages of neighbouring resorts therefore refer to the same ski area and the same lift pass, so they should not be added together.
Sixt-Fer-à-Cheval is a village classed among the Plus Beaux Villages de France, in the Giffre valley at 760 m, and a member of the Grand Massif. Its small 15 km area (Salvagny sector) is mainly a base for beginners; confident skiers reach the rest of the Grand Massif via a free shuttle bus, before coming back down via the Piste des Cascades (14 km) in the heart of the Fer-à-Cheval nature reserve.

Based on the resort's altitude and historical snow reliability
Sixt-Fer-à-Cheval is a low-key resort on a modest scale — 15 km of runs offering an intimate skiing experience, far from the bustle of the big resorts. This is where you come for calm, authenticity and lift queues that barely exist. Sixt-Fer-à-Cheval's family reputation is well earned: dedicated beginner areas, well-groomed green runs and a friendly atmosphere at the foot of the lifts. It is one of the most reassuring resorts in the Northern Alps for laying the foundations of skiing with children. Sixt-Fer-à-Cheval's moderate altitude — base at 770 m, summit at 1,600 m — makes it sensitive to climate variations. January and February remain the safest months for optimal snow cover. Outside this window, checking snow reports before you leave is strongly advised. With a day lift pass at just 16€, Sixt-Fer-à-Cheval is one of the most affordable destinations in France. For families on a tight budget, or skiers who want to fit in plenty of days without breaking the bank, it's a sincere and often overlooked choice. In short: Sixt-Fer-à-Cheval is one of those rare resorts that combines a genuine village, a sincerely family atmosphere and runs suited to everyone. Hard to go wrong with a stay here.
🏔️ Le Grand Massif
Five villages of the Faucigny linked around the Grandes Platières plateau, a stone's throw from Geneva. Flaine, a flagship resort built in the 1960s by architects Marcel Breuer and Éric Boissonnas, with its raw concrete blocks and sculptures by Picasso and Dubuffet set in the mountains — you either love it or hate it, but it's unique. Below, Samoëns, Morillon, Les Carroz and Sixt have kept their chalets and church spires. The area offers one of the longest runs in the Alps, the Cascades: 14 km of descent from the Grandes Platières down to Sixt, with views over the Fer-à-Cheval cirque.
