Avoriaz is a ski resort in the Northern Alps range, in the Portes du Soleil, Haute-Savoie. The ski area stretches over 75 km of runs between 1,800 m and 2,200 m, served by 34 lifts. Day lift pass 59€ per adult.
* Price per adult for 1 day, public high-season rate. Reduced rates (online purchase, outside school holidays, families, children, seniors) are generally offered by the resort.
ℹ️ These figures refer to the Avoriaz – Montriond ski area, which is shared by several resorts: kilometres of runs, number of runs, lifts and lift pass are common to all of them. The figures shown here and on the pages of neighbouring resorts therefore describe the same ski area and the same lift pass: they are not added together.
Avoriaz is a 100% pedestrian resort perched at 1,800 m, designed by architect Jacques Labro, with its brown timber buildings clinging to the cliffs. The main gateway to the Portes du Soleil (600 km, 12 Franco-Swiss resorts), it is one of the liveliest resorts in the Alps. There are no cars: horse-drawn sleighs and shuttle buses handle getting around.

Based on the resort's altitude and historical snow reliability
A resort on a human scale, Avoriaz focuses on the quality of its welcome and its closeness rather than on impressive figures. Its 75 km of runs are perfectly suited to a stay of 3 to 4 days, especially for families or for skiers who don't need to keep changing their playground. Avoriaz's family reputation is well deserved: dedicated beginner areas, a well-run childcare service, well-groomed green runs and a friendly atmosphere at the foot of the lifts. It is one of the most reassuring resorts in the Northern Alps for laying the foundations of skiing with children. Avoriaz's altitude (1,800 m at the base, 2,277 m at the top) helps it keep a decent snow cover in the middle of winter. January and February are the most reliable months; in December and March, it is worth checking conditions before finalising a booking. A stay in Avoriaz is clearly expensive: a 59€ day lift pass, plus accommodation and mountain restaurants that are among the most expensive in the Alps. That is the price of excellence, but you should be aware of it before you go. In short, Avoriaz keeps its promises. A Northern Alps resort that will suit most profiles without disappointing.
🏔️ Les Portes du Soleil
Twelve resorts, two countries, one lift pass: the Portes du Soleil was born in 1964 from a handful of French and Swiss mayors who had the slightly crazy idea of linking their villages across the border. The result is like a giant playground: you start the morning in Avoriaz, have lunch in Switzerland, and head back via Châtel in the evening without ever taking your skis off. The area is more rural than its Savoyard neighbours: many runs through the forest, villages that have kept their church steeples and farms, and the famous Mur suisse at Chavanette for those who like a thrill. Be aware that not everything is linked 100% by ski: a few shuttle buses complete the network.
