ℹ️ These figures refer to the Avoriaz – Montriond ski area, which is shared by several resorts: kilometres of runs, number of runs, lifts and lift pass are common to all of them. The figures shown here and on the pages of neighbouring resorts therefore describe the same ski area and the same lift pass: they are not added together.

About Montriond

Montriond is a village in the Aulps valley at 875 m, whose hamlet of l'Ardent is directly linked to the Avoriaz ski area (75 km, 50 runs) within the Portes du Soleil. Its Lac de Montriond, frozen in winter, is one of the most beautiful lakes in Haute-Savoie. A calm family resort in an exceptional natural setting.

Did you know?
Lac de Montriond, a turquoise expanse ringed by cliffs and forest, is the largest lake in the Chablais massif. At the far end of the valley, the Ardent waterfall, a protected site, can be admired from a wooden footbridge suspended over the drop.
Nearby cliffs still hold the galleries of old slate quarries, worked until the 1950s — slate long roofed every house in the valley.
Just above, the hamlet of Les Lindarets is famous for its goats, which roam freely among the chalets all summer.

✍️ Our verdict on Montriond

Montriond is a confidential resort on a modest scale — 15 km of runs for an intimate skiing experience, far from the bustle of the big resorts. This is where people come for calm, authenticity and no queues at the lifts. Montriond's family reputation is well earned: dedicated beginner areas, well-groomed green runs and a friendly atmosphere at the foot of the lifts. It is one of the most reassuring resorts in the Northern Alps for laying the foundations of skiing with children. Montriond's altitude (1,049 m at the base, 2,350 m at the top) allows it to maintain decent snow cover in midwinter. January and February are the most reliable months; in December and March, it is wise to check conditions before finalising a booking. The budget for a stay in Montriond is clearly high: 57€ for a day lift pass, plus accommodation and mountain restaurants among the most expensive in the Alps. It is the price of excellence — but you should be aware of it before you set off. In short: Montriond is one of those rare resorts that combines a real village, a sincerely family-friendly atmosphere and runs suited to everyone. It's hard to get your stay wrong here.

🏔️ Les Portes du Soleil

Twelve resorts, two countries, one lift pass: the Portes du Soleil was born in 1964 from a handful of French and Swiss mayors who had the slightly crazy idea of linking their villages across the border. The result is like a giant playground: you start the morning in Avoriaz, have lunch in Switzerland, and head back via Châtel in the evening without ever taking your skis off. The area is more rural than its Savoyard neighbours: many runs through the forest, villages that have kept their church steeples and farms, and the famous Mur suisse at Chavanette for those who like a thrill. Be aware that not everything is linked 100% by ski: a few shuttle buses complete the network.
