Did you know?
The Tramway du Mont-Blanc, hewn by hand into the slope between 1905 and 1913, is France's highest train: it climbs to the Nid d'Aigle (2,400 m), at the foot of the Bionnassay glacier. The builders' original ambition? To reach... the summit of Mont Blanc. The First World War put an end to it.
Few people know this: the summit of Mont Blanc (4,806 m) lies partly within the territory of the commune of Saint-Gervais, which is its most direct access route, while also being a renowned spa town.

✍️ Our verdict on Saint-Gervais

Human-scale resort, Saint-Gervais focuses on warm welcome and closeness rather than impressive figures. Its 45 km of runs are ideal for a 3–4 day stay, especially with family or for skiers who don't need to constantly change their playground. Saint-Gervais's family reputation is well deserved: dedicated beginner areas, a well-run childcare service, well-groomed green runs and a friendly atmosphere at the foot of the lifts. It is one of the most reassuring resorts in the Northern Alps for laying the foundations of skiing with children. Its altitude (850 m at the bottom, 2,350 m at the top) allows a decent snow cover in mid-winter. January and February are the most reliable; in December and March, it's worth checking conditions before finalising a booking. The budget for a stay in Saint-Gervais is clearly high: 59€ for a day pass, plus accommodation and mountain restaurants among the most expensive in the Alps. It is the price of excellence, but you should be aware of it before setting off. In short: Saint-Gervais is one of those rare resorts that combines a real village, a sincere family atmosphere and runs suited to everyone. Hard to get your stay wrong here.

🏔️ Évasion Mont-Blanc

Megève, Saint-Gervais, Combloux, La Giettaz and Les Contamines-Montjoie, joined together at the foot of the roof of Europe. Megève, created in the 1920s by the Baroness de Rothschild, who wanted a French Saint-Moritz, remains the resort of French elegance: a medieval village, horse-drawn carriages, Michelin-starred tables. Skiing here is rather gentle, on long runs through the forest with generous sun exposure. One nuance: of the 445 km announced by the lift pass, only 263 km are actually linked by lifts; Les Contamines and Cordon require a transfer. The panorama of Mont Blanc, however, is constant.
