About Les Houches
Les Houches ski runs

Les Houches is a family resort at 1,004 m in the Chamonix valley. Its Verte run is one of the most technical certified descents in Europe and has hosted World Cup races. Its 55 km offer reliable snow thanks to the north-facing slopes, and a more relaxed atmosphere than the rest of the valley.

Did you know?
The resort is home to the legendary « Verte des Houches », also known as the Kandahar run. Laid out for the 1937 World Championships (the first ever held in France), it is one of only two historic French men's World Cup downhill runs, alongside the Face de Bellevarde. A black run with 870 m of vertical drop that the best skiers get down in two minutes.
Its name, 'Verte' (green), says nothing about its difficulty: it comes from the fir trees lining it, which give its ice green reflections. 'Kandahar' comes from the Arlberg-Kandahar race, named in honour of a British general, the Earl of... Kandahar, in Afghanistan.

✍️ Our view of Les Houches

A resort on a human scale, Les Houches prides itself on the quality of its welcome and its closeness rather than on impressive figures. Its 55 km of pistes are ideal for a stay of 3 to 4 days, especially for families or skiers who don't need to constantly change their playground. The family reputation of Les Houches is well deserved: dedicated beginner areas, a well-organised childcare service, well-maintained green runs and a friendly atmosphere at the foot of the lifts. It is one of the most reassuring resorts in the Northern Alps for laying the foundations of skiing with children. The moderate altitude of Les Houches — starting at 1,008 m, with the summit at 1,900 m — makes it sensitive to climate variations. January and February remain the safest months for optimal snow cover. Outside this window, checking the snow reports before you travel is strongly recommended. The budget for a stay in Les Houches is clearly high: 59€ for a day lift pass, plus accommodation and mountain restaurants among the most expensive in the Alps. It is the price of excellence, but you should be aware of it before you go. In short: Les Houches keeps its promises well. A Northern Alps resort that will suit most skier profiles without disappointing.
