Based on the resort's altitude and historical snow reliability
Chamonix offers 110 km of well-marked runs, an intermediate-sized ski area ideal for spending 4 to 5 days without ever doing exactly the same thing twice. The 43 lifts are generally sufficient to handle the crowds in high season. Technical terrain reigns supreme in Chamonix: with 16 black and 44 red runs on offer, confirmed skiers will find plenty to challenge them seriously. Off-piste and freeride are practised here in often excellent conditions, thanks to the altitude and the orientation of the slopes. As for snow reliability, Chamonix is in a strong position with its highest point at 3,842m: even in capricious winters, the upper runs hold up well until April. The village at 1,035m is also well placed to guarantee comfortable conditions from mid-December onwards. The budget for a stay in Chamonix is clearly high: 77€ for a day lift pass, plus accommodation and mountain restaurants among the most expensive in the Alps. It's the price of excellence, but you need to be aware of it before you go. In short: Chamonix keeps its promises. A Northern Alps resort that will suit most profiles without disappointing.
