ℹ️ These figures refer to the Forêt Blanche (Vars – Risoul) ski area, which is shared by several resorts: kilometres of runs, number of runs, lifts and lift pass are common to all of them. The figures shown here and on the pages of neighbouring resorts therefore refer to the same ski area and the same lift pass: they should not be added together.

Based on the resort's altitude and historical snow reliability
The Risoul ski area, with its 185 km of runs, offers a great choice for every level: large enough that you won't go round in circles for a week, yet compact enough to find your favourite sectors easily. The 36 lifts let you chain descents without long queues. Risoul's family reputation is well deserved: dedicated beginner areas, a well-run childcare service, well-groomed green runs and a friendly atmosphere at the foot of the lifts. It is one of the most reassuring resorts in the Southern Alps for getting started on skiing with children. With a summit at 2,750 m and a village at 1,850 m, Risoul's snow cover is generally reliable from January to the end of March. A few exceptionally mild winters may cause tension early in the season, but the situation recovers quickly once serious snowfall arrives. The budget for a stay in Risoul is clearly high: 58€ for a day lift pass, on top of which come accommodation and mountain restaurants that are among the most expensive in the Alps. That is the price of quality, but be aware of it before you set off. In short: Risoul delivers on its promises. A Southern Alps resort that will suit most types of skier without disappointing.
🏔️ La Forêt Blanche
Vars and Risoul share 185 km of runs either side of the Col de Valbelle, in a landscape of sparse larch forest typical of the Southern Alps. It is the region's second-largest ski area and one of its highest: 83% of runs lie above 2,000 m, which offsets the southern latitude and ensures good-quality snow. Vars is renowned for its Kilomètre Lancé, a speed course where several world records have been set at over 250 km/h. Risoul, a car-free resort from the 1970s, has a more family-friendly and intimate feel. The sun, meanwhile, is everywhere: over 300 days a year.
