Opened in November 1970 to plans by Parisian architect Jean-Michel Legrand, the resort, designed to be car-free and integrated into the landscape, is listed as 20th-century architectural heritage.
Its 'Bulle' (Bubble), a giant football-shaped building housing the ESF and a restaurant, was originally orange: it's what gave the resort its logo. After a fire, it was rebuilt... in white.
On 9 July 1973, the resort hosted a stage finish of the Tour de France, won by Spaniard Luis Ocaña, the overall winner of that edition.

✍️ Our verdict on Les Orres

Les Orres offers 100 km of well-marked runs, a mid-sized ski area ideal for spending 4 to 5 days without ever doing exactly the same thing twice. The 17 lifts are generally sufficient to handle the crowds in high season. The family reputation of Les Orres is well deserved: dedicated beginner areas, a well-run childcare service, well-groomed green runs and a good-natured atmosphere at the foot of the lifts. It is one of the most reassuring resorts in the Southern Alps for learning to ski with children. With a summit at 2,720 m and a village at 1,650 m, snow cover at Les Orres is generally reliable from January to the end of March. A few exceptionally mild winters can cause tension early in the season, but the situation recovers quickly once substantial snowfalls arrive. The 46€ day lift pass puts Les Orres in the mid-range category for budget: neither cheap nor exorbitant. The quality of the ski area and facilities justifies the price for most skiers. In short: Les Orres keeps its promises well. A resort in the Southern Alps that will suit most types of skier without disappointing.
