Did you know?
The hamlet of La Chalp has been home since 1920 to the cooperative « L'Alpin chez lui – Les Jouets du Queyras », founded by a pastor to combat winter emigration: the famous hand-painted wooden toys are still made there, more than a century later.
The Arvieux valley leads to the Col d'Izoard (2,360 m) and its Casse Déserte, one of the most legendary passes of the Tour de France, on the Route des Grandes Alpes inaugurated in 1934.

✍️ Our view of Arvieux-en-Queyras

Arvieux-en-Queyras is a low-key resort on a modest scale — 12 km of runs for an intimate skiing experience, far from the bustle of the big resorts. This is where people come for calm, authenticity and no queues at the lifts. Arvieux-en-Queyras has kept the identity of an authentic mountain village, far from the concrete resorts of the 1970s. People come here for the clean air, the unspoiled landscapes and a friendly atmosphere that stands apart from the industrialisation of skiing in some large ski areas. Arvieux-en-Queyras's altitude (1,150 m at the base, 2,100 m at the top) helps it keep decent snow through midwinter. January and February are the most reliable; in December and March, it's worth checking conditions before finalising a booking. With a day lift pass at just 20€, Arvieux-en-Queyras is one of the most affordable destinations in France. For families on a tight budget, or skiers who want to fit in lots of days without breaking the bank, it's a sincere and often overlooked choice. In short: Arvieux-en-Queyras doesn't compete with the giants of skiing, and doesn't pretend to. It's an honest destination, often underrated, that deserves to be (re)discovered.
