✍️ Our verdict on Obereggen

A resort on a human scale, Obereggen focuses on the quality of its welcome and its closeness rather than impressive figures. Its 49 km of runs suit a stay of 3 to 4 days perfectly, especially for families or skiers who don't need to constantly change their playground. Obereggen has kept the authentic identity of a mountain village, far from the concrete resorts of the 1970s. People come here for the fresh air, the unspoilt landscapes and a friendly atmosphere that contrasts with the industrialised feel of skiing in some big ski areas. Obereggen's altitude (1,550 m at the bottom, 2,388 m at the top) allows it to maintain decent snow cover through mid-winter. January and February are the most reliable; in December and March, it is best to check conditions before finalising a booking. Overall, a stay in Obereggen is clearly expensive: the 71€ day lift pass comes on top of accommodation and mountain restaurants that are among the most expensive in the Alps. That is the price of excellence, but it is worth being aware of it before you go. In short: Obereggen doesn't rival the giants of skiing, and doesn't pretend to. It is an honest destination, often underestimated, that deserves to be (re)discovered.
