✍️ Our verdict on Val d'Isère

The Val d'Isère ski area, with its 150 km of runs, offers a fine choice for every type of skier: big enough not to go round in circles for a week, yet compact enough to find your favourite sectors easily. The 36 lifts let you link descents without long queues. Val d'Isère's identity is high-end: its accommodation, mountain restaurants and resort services reflect a clientele that doesn't count the cost. With a day lift pass at 70€, the stay comes at a price, but the experience lives up to it for those who want to indulge without compromise. As for snow reliability, Val d'Isère is in a strong position with its summit at 3,456 m. Even in capricious winters, the upper runs hold up well until April. The village at 1,850 m is also well placed to ensure comfortable conditions from mid-December. The budget for a stay in Val d'Isère is clearly high: 70€ for the day lift pass, plus accommodation and mountain restaurants among the most expensive in the Alps. It's the price of excellence, but be aware of it before you go. In short: Val d'Isère isn't for everyone, but for those who can afford it, it's probably one of the best skiing experiences in Europe.

🏔️ Tignes – Val d'Isère

Tignes and Val d'Isère, joined since 1965 by the Col de Fresse, form a 300 km ski area, one of the largest and highest in the Alps. It is a ski area for purists: high altitude from bottom to top, the Grande Motte glacier skiable up to 3,456 m, and snow almost guaranteed from October to May. The two resorts complement each other more than they resemble one another: Val d'Isère has the charm of a genuine Savoyard village and a reputation as a chic resort, while Tignes embraces its 1960s architecture and its sporty atmosphere. Off-piste here is among the most renowned in Europe.
