Did you know?
A discreet neighbour of Val d'Isère, Tignes and Les Arcs, Sainte-Foy is a low-key resort only established in 1990, and a renowned freeride paradise, with vast ungroomed areas and legendary routes such as the descent to Le Monal.
The hamlet of Le Monal, perched at 1,874 m and listed for its heritage and landscape interest, is one of the finest examples of 'montagnettes' in Tarentaise: stone and wood chalets dating from the 18th and 19th centuries nestled around a chapel, facing the Mont Pourri glacier.

✍️ Our verdict on Sainte-Foy-Tarentaise

A resort on a human scale, Sainte-Foy-Tarentaise focuses on the warmth of its welcome and its closeness rather than impressive figures. Its 43 km of runs suit a stay of 3 to 4 days perfectly, especially for families or skiers who don't need to constantly change their playground. Technical terrain is king at Sainte-Foy-Tarentaise: with 4 black and 11 red runs on offer, confident skiers will find plenty to test themselves. Off-piste and freeride are practised in often excellent conditions thanks to the altitude and the aspect of the slopes. With a summit at 2,620 m and a village at 1,550 m, snow reliability at Sainte-Foy-Tarentaise is generally dependable from January to the end of March. A few exceptionally mild winters can cause tension early in the season, but conditions recover quickly once the first serious snowfalls arrive. At 46€, the day lift pass places Sainte-Foy-Tarentaise among the intermediate resorts on budget: neither cheap nor exorbitant. The quality of the ski area and facilities justifies this price for most skiers. In short: Sainte-Foy-Tarentaise doesn't compete with the ski giants, and doesn't pretend to. It's an honest destination, often underrated, that deserves to be (re)discovered.
