ℹ️ These figures relate to the Espace Lumière (Pra-Loup – Val d'Allos) ski area, shared by several resorts: kilometres of runs, number of runs, lifts and lift pass are common to all. The figures shown here and on neighbouring resort pages therefore refer to the same ski area and the same lift pass, so they are not added together.

✍️ Our verdict on Val d'Allos

The Val d'Allos ski area, with its 180 km of runs, is a great offer for all kinds of skiers: big enough not to go round in circles for a week, yet compact enough to find your favourite sectors easily. The 37 lifts let you chain descents without long queues. Val d'Allos's family reputation is well earned: dedicated beginner areas, a well-run childcare service, well-groomed green runs and a friendly atmosphere at the foot of the lifts. It is one of the most reassuring resorts in the Southern Alps for laying the foundations of skiing with children. With a summit at 2,600 m and a village at 1,400 m, snow reliability at Val d'Allos is generally dependable from January to the end of March. A few exceptionally mild winters can cause tensions early in the season, but the situation recovers quickly as soon as serious snowfall arrives. The day lift pass at 49€ places Val d'Allos among the intermediate resorts on budget – neither cheap nor exorbitant. The quality of the ski area and its facilities justifies this price for most skiers. In the end, Val d'Allos is a safe bet in French skiing: a large ski area, good snow reliability and prices that are still justified. A destination that deserves its reputation.

Pra-Loup and Val d'Allos La Foux have been linked since 1972 above the Ubaye valley, forming one of the largest ski areas in the Southern Alps with 180 km of runs. Pra-Loup was founded by Honoré Bonnet, coach of the French Olympic champion team of 1968, who wanted a sunny training ground: the result is a varied ski area, largely wooded with larches, with a comfortable vertical drop. Val d'Allos, on the other side of the Col de l'Encombrette, opens onto the Mercantour National Park. The climate is that of the south: dry, bright, and generous with blue-sky days.
