Did you know?
The resort was born out of a unique collective wager: in the 1960s, residents invested their own savings through shareholding to create the resort and save the village from depopulation. It opened on 24 January 1971... in a snowstorm.
The water at Montclar is drawn at 1,650 m altitude and is the highest mineral water source in France, and it is what runs from the taps throughout the resort.
Its ski area spreads across two slopes and two valleys, the Blanche and the Ubaye, which gives it its name.

✍️ Our verdict on Montclar-les-2-Vallées

A resort on a human scale, Montclar-les-2-Vallées relies on the quality of its welcome and its closeness rather than impressive figures. Its 55 km of runs are a perfect fit for a 3- to 4-day stay, especially for families or skiers who don't need to constantly change their playground. Montclar-les-2-Vallées' reputation as a family resort is well deserved: dedicated beginner areas, a well-organised childcare service, well-groomed green runs and a friendly atmosphere at the foot of the lifts. It is one of the most reassuring resorts in the Southern Alps for laying the foundations of skiing with children. Montclar-les-2-Vallées' altitude (1,350 m at the base, 2,040 m at the top) helps it keep a decent snow cover in the depths of winter. January and February are the most reliable months; in December and March, it is worth checking conditions before finalising a booking. The 34€ day lift pass remains reasonable for the quality of the ski area on offer. Counting accommodation, skiing and meals, Montclar-les-2-Vallées suits those who want a good week without the final bill knocking them off their chair. In short, Montclar-les-2-Vallées keeps its promises. A Southern Alps resort that will suit most skiers without disappointing.
