Based on the resort's altitude and historical snow reliability
Being a resort on a human scale, Chabanon relies on the quality of its welcome and its closeness rather than on impressive figures. Its 40 km of runs are well suited to a 3 to 4 day stay, especially for families or skiers who do not need to constantly renew their playground. Chabanon’s family reputation is well deserved: dedicated beginner areas, well-organised childcare, well-groomed green runs and a friendly atmosphere at the foot of the lifts. It is one of the most reassuring resorts in the Southern Alps for laying the foundations of skiing with children. Chabanon’s altitude (1,600 m at the base, 2,000 m at the top) helps it keep a decent snow cover through midwinter. January and February are the most reliable; in December and March, it is best to check conditions before finalising a booking. The 24€ day lift pass remains reasonable for the quality of the ski area on offer. Counting accommodation, skiing and meals, Chabanon is for those who want to spend a good week without the final bill making them fall off their chair. In short: Chabanon does not compete with the giants of skiing, and does not pretend to. It is an honest destination, often underrated, that deserves to be (re)discovered.
