About Maria Alm

The 120 km, 34 lifts and lift pass shown are those of the Hochkönig ski area, shared by Maria Alm, Dienten and Mühlbach am Hochkönig. Based on the resort's altitude and historical snow reliability

✍️ Our verdict on Maria Alm

Maria Alm offers 120 km of well-marked runs: a mid-sized ski area, ideal for spending 4 to 5 days without ever doing exactly the same thing twice. The 34 lifts are generally sufficient to handle the crowds in high season. Maria Alm's family reputation is well earned: dedicated beginner areas, a well-organised childcare service, well-groomed green runs and a friendly atmosphere at the foot of the lifts. It is one of the most reassuring resorts in the Northern Alps for laying the foundations of skiing with children. Maria Alm's moderate altitude, with a base at 802 m and a summit at 1,900 m, makes it sensitive to climatic variations. January and February remain the safest months for optimal snow cover. Outside that window, checking the snow reports before setting off is strongly advised. The budget for a stay in Maria Alm is clearly high: 79€ for a day lift pass, plus accommodation and mountain restaurants that are among the most expensive in the Alps. It is the price of excellence, but you should be aware of it before you go. In short: Maria Alm lives up to its promises. A resort in the Northern Alps that will suit the majority of skiers without disappointing.
