Based on the resort's altitude and historical snow reliability
A resort on a human scale, Kaprun prioritises the quality of its welcome and its closeness rather than impressive figures. Its 62.5 km of runs are ideal for a 3- to 4-day stay, especially for families or for skiers who don't need to constantly find new terrain. Kaprun's family reputation is well deserved: dedicated beginner areas, a well-run childcare service, well-groomed green runs and a friendly atmosphere at the foot of the lifts. It is one of the most reassuring resorts in the Northern Alps for laying the foundations of skiing with children. As for snow reliability, Kaprun is in a strong position with its summit at 3,029 m — even in fickle winters, the upper runs hold up well until April. The village at 768 m is also well placed to offer comfortable conditions from mid-December onwards. Budgeting for a stay in Kaprun is clearly on the high side: 82€ for a day lift pass, on top of accommodation and mountain restaurants that are among the most expensive in the Alps. That is the price of excellence — but you should be aware of it before you set off. In short: Kaprun keeps its promises. A Northern Alps resort that will suit most types of skier without disappointing.
