Based on the resort's altitude and historical snow reliability
A resort with a human scale, Dorfgastein focuses on the quality of its welcome and its closeness rather than on impressive figures. Its 67.5 km of runs are perfectly suited to a stay of 3 to 4 days, especially for families or skiers who do not need to constantly change their playground. Dorfgastein's family reputation is well earned: dedicated beginner areas, a well-organised childcare service, well-groomed green runs and a friendly atmosphere at the foot of the lifts. It is one of the most reassuring resorts in the Northern Alps for getting children started on skiing. Dorfgastein's altitude (830 m at the base, 2,033 m at the top) allows it to maintain decent snow cover in mid-winter. January and February are the most reliable; in December and March, it is best to check conditions before finalising a booking. The budget for a stay in Dorfgastein is clearly high: 82€ for the day lift pass, plus accommodation and high-altitude restaurants that are among the most expensive in the Alps. It is the price of excellence – but you need to be aware of it before you set off. In short: Dorfgastein keeps its promises well. A Northern Alps resort that will suit most skiers without disappointing.
