Based on the resort's altitude and historical snow reliability
A human-scale resort, Rauris focuses on the quality of its welcome and its closeness rather than on impressive figures. Its 32.5 km of runs are ideal for a 3- to 4-day stay, especially for families or skiers who don't need to constantly renew their playground. Rauris's family reputation is well deserved: dedicated beginner areas, well-groomed green runs and a friendly atmosphere at the foot of the lifts. It is one of the most reassuring resorts in the Northern Alps for laying the foundations of skiing with children. Rauris's altitude (950 m at the bottom, 2,175 m at the top) helps it maintain decent snow cover in midwinter. January and February are the most reliable months; in December and March, it's best to check conditions before finalising a booking. The budget for a stay in Rauris is clearly high: 65€ for a day lift pass, plus accommodation and mountain restaurants that are among the most expensive in the Alps. It is the price of excellence, but you should be aware of it before you go. In short, Rauris doesn't compete with the giants of skiing and doesn't pretend to. It is an honest, often underrated destination that deserves to be (re)discovered.
