Did you know?
The village is home to an artificial ice tower, one of the few facilities of its kind in France, which hosts international ice climbing competitions, and where beginners can learn ice climbing.
Its baroque church of Saint-Sigismond, rebuilt in 1683, hides behind a very plain façade an interior dazzling with gold and carved cherubs, a true treasure of Savoyard baroque art.
A few kilometres away, the Champagny-le-Haut valley, a former glacial valley closed off by the Grande Casse, has been a designated natural site since 1992 and serves as a gateway to the Vanoise National Park.

✍️ Our verdict on Champagny-en-Vanoise

The Champagny-en-Vanoise ski area, with its 225 km of runs, offers a fine choice for every type of skier: large enough not to go round in circles for a week, yet compact enough to find your favourite sectors easily. The 77 lifts make it possible to chain descents without long queues. Champagny-en-Vanoise's family reputation is well deserved: dedicated beginner areas, a well-run childcare service, well-maintained green runs and a friendly atmosphere at the foot of the lifts. It is one of the most reassuring resorts in the Northern Alps for learning to ski with children. As for snow, Champagny-en-Vanoise is in a strong position with its summit at 3,250 m: even in capricious winters, the upper runs hold up well until April. The village at 1,250 m is also well placed to offer comfortable conditions from the middle of December. The budget for a stay in Champagny-en-Vanoise is clearly high: 72€ for a day lift pass, plus accommodation and mountain restaurants that are among the most expensive in the Alps. It's the price of excellence, but you should be aware of it before you go. In short: Champagny-en-Vanoise is one of those rare resorts that combines a real village, a sincerely family-friendly atmosphere and runs suited to everyone. It's hard to have a bad stay here.

La Plagne and Les Arcs had always looked at each other across the valley without being able to connect. In 2003, the Vanoise Express solved the problem: two 200-seat cabins that cross 1.8 km of empty space in four minutes, one of the largest cable cars in the world. Suddenly, 425 km of linked runs. The two resorts keep very different identities – La Plagne spread across ten villages from 1250 to 2,100 m, Les Arcs lined up on a balcony-like slope facing Mont Blanc. Peisey-Vallandry, at the foot of the cable car, is the discreet, wooded link between the two.
