✍️ Our view of Obertraun – Krippenstein

Obertraun – Krippenstein is a small, low-key resort on a modest scale: 12 km of runs offering an intimate skiing experience, far from the bustle of the big resorts. This is where people come for calm, authenticity and no queues at the lifts. Obertraun – Krippenstein's reputation as a family resort is well deserved: dedicated beginner areas, well-groomed green runs and a friendly atmosphere at the foot of the lifts. It is one of the most reassuring resorts in the Northern Alps for laying the foundations of skiing with children. The altitude of Obertraun – Krippenstein (609 m at the bottom, 2,109 m at the top) helps it maintain decent snow cover in the depths of winter. January and February are the most reliable months; in December and March, it is best to check conditions before finalising a booking. The budget for a stay in Obertraun – Krippenstein is clearly high: 63€ for a day lift pass, plus accommodation and mountain restaurants among the most expensive in the Alps. It is the price of excellence, but you should be aware of it before setting off. In short: Obertraun – Krippenstein does not compete with the giants of skiing and does not pretend to. It is an honest destination, often underrated, that deserves to be (re)discovered.
