Did you know?
Yes, you can ski in Provence! Skiing on Mont Ventoux dates back to the 1920s: the writer, painter and mountaineer Pierre de Champeville organised demonstrations there from 1925, and the first lifts appeared on the slopes of the 'Giant of Provence' as early as the 1930s — making it one of the oldest resorts in France.
Its name is no accident: unlike the summit of Ventoux, which is swept by the wind, the Mont Serein slope is sheltered from the Mistral.

✍️ Our verdict on Mont Serein

Mont Serein is a small, low-key resort — 12 km of runs for an intimate skiing experience, far from the bustle of the big resorts. This is where you come for calm, authenticity and no queues at the lifts. Mont Serein's family reputation is well earned: dedicated beginner areas, well-groomed green runs and a friendly atmosphere at the foot of the lifts. It is one of the most reassuring resorts in the Southern Alps for laying the foundations of skiing with children. Mont Serein's moderate altitude — starting at 1,400 m and topping out at 1,900 m — makes it sensitive to climate variations. January and February remain the safest months for optimal snow cover. Outside that window, checking the snow reports before you travel is strongly advised. With a day lift pass at just 18€, Mont Serein is one of the most affordable destinations in France. For families on a tight budget, or skiers who want to make the most of their days without breaking the bank, it is an honest and often overlooked choice. In short: Mont Serein does not compete with the giants of skiing, and does not claim to. It is an honest destination, often underrated, that deserves to be (re)discovered.
