Based on the resort's altitude and historical snow reliability
Gressoney-Saint-Jean is a low-key resort on a modest scale: 12 km of runs for an intimate skiing experience, far from the bustle of the big resorts. This is where you come for calm, authenticity and no queues at the lifts. Gressoney-Saint-Jean's reputation as a family resort is well deserved: dedicated beginner areas, well-groomed green runs and a friendly atmosphere at the foot of the lifts. It is one of the most reassuring resorts in the Northern Alps for learning the basics with children. The altitude of Gressoney-Saint-Jean (1,348 m at the bottom, 2,023 m at the top) allows it to keep a decent snow cover through the depths of winter. January and February are the most reliable months; in December and March, it is best to check conditions before finalising a booking. The 31€ day pass remains reasonable for the quality of the ski area on offer. Counting accommodation, skiing and meals, Gressoney-Saint-Jean suits those who want a lovely week without the final bill knocking them off their chair. In short: Gressoney-Saint-Jean does not rival the giants of skiing, and does not pretend to. It is an honest destination, often underrated, that deserves to be (re)discovered.
