Did you know?
With 250 km of pistes, it is one of the largest ski areas in Europe. It links three villages (Chantemerle, Villeneuve, Le Monêtier-les-Bains) to the town of Briançon, whose Vauban fortifications are listed as a UNESCO World Heritage Site.
The Vauban piste, opened in 1989, lets you ski, even at night, directly above the illuminated ramparts of Briançon, a setting unique in the Alps.
Briançon champion Luc Alphand, several times a World Cup winner in downhill and Super-G, gave his name to one of the ski area's emblematic runs.

✍️ Our take on Serre Chevalier

Serre Chevalier's 250 km of pistes make for a good offer for every type of skier: large enough not to run out of new terrain over a week, yet compact enough to find your favourite sectors easily. The 58 lifts let you chain descents without long queues. Serre Chevalier's reputation as a family resort is well earned: dedicated beginner areas, a well-run childcare service, well-groomed green runs and a friendly atmosphere at the foot of the lifts. It is one of the most reassuring resorts in the Southern Alps for laying the foundations of skiing with children. With a summit at 2,800 m and a village at 1,350 m, snow reliability at Serre Chevalier is generally good from January to the end of March. A few exceptionally mild winters can cause shortages early in the season, but the situation recovers quickly once serious snowfalls arrive. The budget for a stay in Serre Chevalier is clearly high: €68 for a day lift pass, plus accommodation and mountain restaurants that are among the most expensive in the Alps. It is the price of excellence, but you should be aware of it before you go. In short: Serre Chevalier is one of those rare resorts that combines a real village, a sincerely family-friendly atmosphere and pistes suited to everyone. It is hard to get your stay wrong here.

Four villages strung out over 13 km between Briançon and Le Monêtier-les-Bains, forming the largest ski area in the Southern Alps. Serre Chevalier plays a rare card: the dry, sunny climate of the South combined with serious altitude — 2,830m at the Pic de l'Yret — and runs broadly cut through larch forest, which saves days of poor visibility. Briançon, France's highest town, with its Vauban fortifications listed by UNESCO, adds a rare heritage dimension for a resort. Le Monêtier, at the other end, has its natural hot-spring baths to finish the day.
