Based on the resort's altitude and historical snow reliability
Montgenèvre offers 95 km of well-marked runs — a medium-sized ski area ideal for spending 4 to 5 days without ever doing exactly the same thing twice. The 17 lifts are generally sufficient to cope with queues in high season. Montgenèvre's family reputation is well earned: dedicated beginner areas, a well-run childcare service, well-groomed green runs and a friendly atmosphere at the foot of the lifts. It's one of the most reassuring resorts in the Southern Alps for getting children started on skiing. With a summit at 2,823 m and a village at 1,860 m, snow reliability at Montgenèvre is generally dependable from January to the end of March. A few exceptionally mild winters can cause problems early in the season, but the situation recovers quickly once serious snowfalls arrive. A stay at Montgenèvre clearly carries a high budget: 52€ for a day lift pass, plus accommodation and mountain restaurants that are among the most expensive in the Alps. It's the price of excellence — but be aware of it before you go. In short: Montgenèvre lives up to its promises. A Southern Alps resort that will suit most profiles without disappointing.
🏔️ La Voie Lactée (Via Lattea)
Montgenèvre is the only French resort in La Via Lattea, a vast cross-border ski area that extends on the Italian side to Sestrières, Sauze d'Oulx and Sansicario — 400 km of runs in total. Founded in 1907, Montgenèvre is one of the very first ski resorts in France, set on a pass at 1,860 m that guarantees early snow cover. The atmosphere is distinctly southern, with the sunshine of the Briançonnais and the nearness of Italy felt everywhere, from the refuge menus to the accent heard on the lifts. The 95 km belonging to Montgenèvre alone are more than enough for a week; the rest is a bonus.
