La Grave - La Meije is a ski resort in the Southern Alps, in Hautes-Alpes. The area covers 2 km of runs between 1,450 m and 3,568 m, served by 3 lifts. Day lift pass 66€ per adult.
* Price per adult for 1 day, public high-season rate. Reduced rates (online purchase, outside school holidays, families, children, seniors) are generally offered by the resort.
The figures on this page are not a mistake: the area is neither groomed, nor marked, nor secured, apart from a single blue run on the glacier. The 66€ day lift pass covers the cable cars and the glacier drag lift; a pedestrian “panorama” rate of 37€ lets you go up without skiing. The season is one of the longest in France, from late December to early May. There is no link with any other resort, although it is possible to reach La Grave from the summit of the 2 Alpes runs. A shovel, transceiver and probe are essential, and hiring a high-mountain guide is strongly recommended. La Grave - La Meije is an exceptional resort at 1,450 m in the Écrins massif. The area has almost no marked runs: only one blue run exists, right at the top between 3200 and 3,600 m on the Girose glacier. Two cable cars and a drag lift serve 2,100 m of vertical drop, almost entirely off-piste. It is the world mecca of extreme skiing, reserved for experts accompanied by guides.

Based on the resort's altitude and historical snow reliability
La Grave - La Meije is a small, low-key resort, with 2 km of runs offering an intimate skiing experience, far from the bustle of the big resorts. This is where you come for calm, authenticity and no queues at the lifts. The terrain is the main draw at La Grave - La Meije: with 0 black and 0 red runs on offer, confident skiers will find plenty to challenge them. Off-piste and freeride are practised here, often in excellent conditions thanks to the altitude and the orientation of the slopes. As for snow reliability, La Grave - La Meije is in a strong position: with its summit at 3,568 m, even in difficult winters the upper runs hold up well into April. The village at 1,450 m is also well placed to offer comfortable conditions from mid-December. The budget for a stay at La Grave - La Meije is clearly high: €66 for a day lift pass, plus accommodation and mountain restaurants that are among the most expensive in the Alps. It is the price of excellence, but you need to be aware of it before you set off. In short: La Grave - La Meije does not rival the giants of skiing and does not pretend to. It is an honest destination, often underrated, that deserves to be (re)discovered.
