Based on the resort's altitude and historical snow reliability
Malbun is a modest, low-key resort with 23 km of runs, offering an intimate skiing experience far from the bustle of the big resorts. People come here for the calm, the authenticity and the lift queues that barely exist. Malbun's reputation as a family resort is well earned: dedicated beginner areas, well-groomed green runs and a friendly, easygoing atmosphere at the foot of the lifts. It is one of the most reassuring resorts in the Northern Alps for getting children started on skiing. Malbun's altitude (1,600 m at the base, 2,000 m at the top) helps it keep a decent snow cover in the depths of winter. January and February are the most reliable months; in December and March, it's best to check conditions before finalising a booking. A stay in Malbun is clearly on the expensive side: 59€ for a day lift pass, plus accommodation and high-altitude restaurants that are among the priciest in the Alps. It's the price of excellence, but it's worth being aware of it before you go. In short, Malbun doesn't compete with the giants of skiing and doesn't pretend to. It's an honest, often underrated destination that deserves to be (re)discovered.
