Based on the resort's altitude and historical snow reliability
Kaltenbach offers 89 km of well-marked runs — a medium-sized ski area that is ideal for spending 4 to 5 days without ever doing exactly the same thing twice. The 38 lifts are generally sufficient to handle the flow in high season. Kaltenbach's family reputation is well deserved: dedicated beginner areas, a well-organised childcare service, well-maintained green runs and a friendly atmosphere at the foot of the lifts. It is one of the most reassuring resorts in the Northern Alps for laying the foundations of skiing with children. Kaltenbach's altitude (560 m at the bottom, 2,378 m at the top) allows it to maintain decent snow cover in midwinter. January and February are the most reliable months; in December and March, it is worth checking conditions before finalising a booking. A stay in Kaltenbach is clearly expensive: €83 for a day lift pass, plus accommodation and mountain restaurants that are among the most expensive in the Alps. It is the price of excellence — but you should be aware of it before you set off. In short: Kaltenbach lives up to its promises. A resort in the Northern Alps that will suit most profiles without disappointing.
