Based on the resort's altitude and historical snow reliability
A resort on a human scale, Evolène relies on the quality of its welcome and its closeness rather than on impressive figures. Its 41 km of runs are ideal for a 3- to 4-day stay, especially for families or skiers who don't need to keep changing their playground. Evolène's family reputation is well earned: dedicated beginner areas, well-run childcare, well-groomed green runs and a friendly atmosphere at the foot of the lifts. It's one of the most reassuring resorts in the Northern Alps for laying the foundations of skiing with children. With a summit at 2,632 m and a village at 1,404 m, snow reliability at Evolène is generally dependable from January to the end of March. A few exceptionally mild winters can create tension early in the season, but the situation recovers quickly with the first serious snowfalls. Staying in Evolène is clearly expensive: a 53€ day lift pass, plus accommodation and mountain restaurants among the most expensive in the Alps. It's the price of excellence — but you need to be aware of it before you go. In short: Evolène doesn't rival the giants of skiing and doesn't claim to. It's an honest, often underrated destination that deserves to be (re)discovered.
