Based on the resort's altitude and historical snow reliability
Alpe d'Huez offers 140 km of well-marked runs — a mid-sized ski area ideal for spending 4 to 5 days without ever doing exactly the same thing twice. The 38 lifts are generally sufficient to handle the crowds in high season. Alpe d'Huez's family reputation is well earned: dedicated beginner areas, a well-run childcare service, well-groomed green runs and a friendly atmosphere at the foot of the lifts. It is one of the most reassuring resorts in the Northern Alps for laying the foundations of skiing with children. On snow reliability, Alpe d'Huez is in a strong position thanks to its summit at 3,330 m — even in capricious winters, the upper runs hold up well into April. The village at 1,860 m is also well placed to offer comfortable conditions from mid-December. A stay in Alpe d'Huez is clearly expensive: 68€ for a day lift pass, plus accommodation and high-altitude restaurants that are among the most expensive in the Alps. It's the price of excellence — but you should be aware of it before you go. In short: Alpe d'Huez lives up to its promises. A Northern Alps resort that will suit most skiers without disappointing.
🏔️ Alpe d'Huez Grand Domaine Ski
L'Alpe d'Huez calls itself the Île au Soleil (Sun Island), and it lives up to the name: 300 days of sunshine a year on a south-facing plateau at 1,860m. The ski area climbs to the Pic Blanc at 3,330m, from which the Sarenne runs: 16 km of descent, the longest black run in Europe, reaching the valley floor through wild gorge scenery. Around the main resort are Auris, Oz, Vaujany and Villard-Reculas, quieter and often cheaper villages, all linked. The 21 hairpin bends of the legendary Tour de France climb are just below.
