Based on the resort's altitude and historical snow reliability
A resort on a human scale, Speikboden prioritises the quality of its welcome and its closeness over impressive figures. Its 42 km of runs suit a stay of 3 to 4 days particularly well, especially for families or skiers who don't need to constantly explore new terrain. Speikboden's family reputation is well earned: dedicated beginner areas, a well-run childcare service, well-groomed green runs and a friendly atmosphere at the foot of the lifts. It is one of the most reassuring resorts in the Northern Alps for teaching children the basics of skiing. Speikboden's altitude (950 m at the base, 2,400 m at the top) helps it maintain decent snow cover through the depths of winter. January and February are the most reliable months; in December and March, it's worth checking conditions before finalising a booking. A stay at Speikboden is clearly expensive: €75 for a day lift pass, plus accommodation and mountain restaurants that are among the priciest in the Alps. It's the price of excellence, but it's worth being aware of it before you set off. In short: Speikboden doesn't compete with the giants of skiing, and doesn't pretend to. It is an honest destination, often underrated, that deserves to be (re)discovered.
