✍️ Our verdict on Schia

Schia is a modest, low-key resort — 13 km of runs for an intimate skiing experience, far from the bustle of the big resorts. This is where people come for calm, authenticity and no queues at the lifts whatsoever. Schia has held on to the identity of an authentic mountain village, far from the concrete resorts of the 1970s. Here, people come for the clean air, the untouched landscapes and a friendly atmosphere that stands in contrast to the industrialisation of skiing in some of the large ski areas. Schia's moderate altitude — base at 1,202 m, summit at 1,485 m — makes it sensitive to climatic variations. January and February remain the safest months for optimal snow cover. Outside this window, checking the snow reports before setting off is strongly recommended. The €35 day lift pass remains reasonable for the quality of the ski area on offer. Counting accommodation, skiing and meals, Schia suits those who want to spend a good week without the final bill knocking them off their chair. In short: Schia does not rival the giants of skiing, and does not claim to. It is an honest destination, often underrated, that deserves to be (re)discovered.
