Did you know?
The Chartreuse massif is one of the cradles of French skiing: as early as 1907, skiers were racing down the meadows of Le Sappey, and by 1927 the massif already had three resorts, including Saint-Pierre-de-Chartreuse, equipped with a bobsleigh run at Perquelin.
The village is best known for the Grande Chartreuse monastery, mother house of the order founded in 1084, whose monks guard the secret of the famous green liqueur.

✍️ Our verdict on Saint-Pierre-de-Chartreuse

Saint-Pierre-de-Chartreuse is a modest, low-key resort, with 20 km of runs offering an intimate skiing experience, far from the bustle of the big resorts. This is where people come to find calm, authenticity and no queues at the lifts. The family reputation of Saint-Pierre-de-Chartreuse is well earned: dedicated beginner areas, well-groomed green runs and a friendly atmosphere at the foot of the lifts. It is one of the most reassuring resorts in the Northern Alps for laying the foundations of skiing with children. The moderate altitude of Saint-Pierre-de-Chartreuse, starting at 900 m and reaching 1,800 m at the top, makes it sensitive to climate variations. January and February remain the safest months for optimal snow cover. Outside this window, checking the snow reports before you leave is strongly advised. With a day lift pass at just 22€, Saint-Pierre-de-Chartreuse is one of the most affordable destinations in France. For families on a tight budget or skiers who want to fit in plenty of days without breaking the bank, it is a sincere and often overlooked choice. In short, Saint-Pierre-de-Chartreuse is one of those rare resorts that combines a real village, a genuinely friendly atmosphere and runs suited to everyone. It is hard to have a bad stay here.
