Based on the resort's altitude and historical snow reliability
Obertauern offers 100 km of well-marked runs, a mid-sized ski area that is ideal for spending 4 to 5 days without ever doing exactly the same thing twice. The 26 lifts are generally sufficient to handle the crowds in high season. Obertauern's family reputation is well earned: dedicated beginner areas, a well-organised childcare service, well-groomed green runs and a friendly atmosphere at the foot of the lifts. It is one of the most reassuring resorts in the Northern Alps for laying the foundations of skiing with children. Obertauern's altitude (1,630 m at the bottom, 2,313 m at the top) allows it to maintain decent snow cover in the depths of winter. January and February are the most reliable months; in December and March, it is worth checking conditions before finalising a booking. The budget for a stay in Obertauern is clearly high: 72€ for a day lift pass, on top of accommodation and mountain restaurants that are among the most expensive in the Alps. It is the price of excellence, but you should be aware of it before you set off. In short: Obertauern lives up to its promises. A Northern Alps resort that will suit the majority of skiers without disappointing.
