Based on the resort's altitude and historical snow reliability
A resort on a human scale, Mellau prides itself on the quality of its welcome and its closeness rather than on impressive figures. Its 75.8 km of runs are ideal for a stay of 3 to 4 days, especially for families or skiers who do not need to constantly change their playground. Mellau's family reputation is well deserved: dedicated beginner areas, a well-organised childcare service, well-groomed green runs and a friendly atmosphere at the foot of the lifts. It is one of the most reassuring resorts in the Northern Alps for laying the foundations of skiing with children. Mellau's altitude (688 m at the bottom, 2,050 m at the top) allows it to maintain decent snow cover in mid-winter. January and February are the most reliable months; in December and March, it is best to check conditions before finalising a booking. A stay in Mellau is clearly on the expensive side: 73€ for a day lift pass, plus accommodation and mountain restaurants that are among the most expensive in the Alps. It is the price of excellence — but you need to be aware of it before setting off. In short: Mellau keeps its promises. A Northern Alps resort that will suit most profiles without disappointing.
