Based on the resort's altitude and historical snow reliability
A resort on a human scale, Leukerbad focuses on the quality of its welcome and its closeness rather than impressive figures. Its 48 km of runs are well suited to a stay of 3 to 4 days, especially for families or skiers who don't need to constantly change their playground. The terrain is technical at Leukerbad: with 36 black runs and 57 red runs on offer, confirmed skiers will find plenty of challenge. Off-piste and freeride are practised here in often excellent conditions thanks to the altitude and the orientation of the slopes. With a summit at 2,610 m and a village at 1,411 m, snow reliability at Leukerbad is generally good from January to the end of March. A few exceptionally mild winters can cause tension early in the season, but the situation recovers quickly once the first serious snowfalls arrive. A stay in Leukerbad is clearly expensive: 69€ for a day lift pass, plus accommodation and mountain restaurants that are among the most expensive in the Alps. It's the price of excellence, but you should be aware of it before you go. In short: Leukerbad doesn't compete with the giants of skiing, and doesn't claim to. It's an honest destination, often underrated, that deserves to be (re)discovered.
