Based on the resort's altitude and historical snow reliability
Champex-Lac is a low-key resort on a modest scale — 15 km of runs for an intimate skiing experience, far from the bustle of the big resorts. This is where people come for calm, authenticity and no queues at the lifts. Champex-Lac's family reputation is well deserved: dedicated beginner areas, well-groomed green runs and a laid-back atmosphere at the foot of the lifts. It is one of the most reassuring resorts in the Northern Alps for laying the foundations of skiing with children. Champex-Lac's altitude (1,468 m at the base, 2,194 m at the top) allows it to maintain decent snow cover in mid-winter. January and February are the most reliable months; in December and March, it is worth checking conditions before finalising a booking. The day lift pass at 49€ places Champex-Lac among the intermediate resorts on budget — neither cheap nor exorbitant. The quality of the ski area and facilities justifies the price for most skiers. In short: Champex-Lac does not rival the giants of skiing, and does not pretend to. It is an honest destination, often underrated, that deserves to be (re)discovered.
