Barèges is a ski resort in the Pyrenees range, in the Hautes-Pyrénées. The ski area stretches over 100 km of runs between 1,250 m and 2,500 m, served by 28 lifts. Day lift pass €53 per adult.

ℹ️ These figures refer to the Grand Tourmalet (Barèges – La Mongie) ski area, shared by several resorts: kilometres of runs, number of runs, lifts and lift pass are common to all. The figures shown here and on neighbouring resort pages therefore refer to the same ski area and the same lift pass: they are not added together.
Barèges is one of the oldest spa resorts in France, popular since the 16th century: its waters were already treating wounded soldiers sent by Louis XIV in the 17th century. The village has kept an authentic character, more village-like than its neighbour La Mongie. Linked since 1973 by runs over the col du Tourmalet (2,115 m), it forms with La Mongie the largest ski area in the French Pyrenees (100 km), with access to the Pic du Midi (2,877 m) via the La Mongie side.

Based on the resort's altitude and historical snow reliability
Barèges offers 100 km of well-marked runs — a mid-sized ski area ideal for spending 4 to 5 days without ever doing exactly the same thing twice. The 28 lifts are generally sufficient to handle the flow in peak season. Barèges' family reputation is well deserved: dedicated beginner areas, a well-run childcare service, well-groomed green runs and a friendly atmosphere at the foot of the lifts. It is one of the most reassuring resorts in the Pyrenees for laying the foundations of skiing with children. With a summit at 2,500 m and a village at 1,250 m, Barèges' snow reliability is generally dependable from January to the end of March. A few exceptionally mild winters can cause strains early in the season, but the situation recovers quickly once the first substantial snowfalls arrive. A stay in Barèges is clearly expensive: €53 for a day lift pass, on top of mountain accommodation and restaurants that are among the most expensive in the Alps. That is the price of excellence — but you should be aware of it before you go. In short: Barèges is one of those rare resorts that combines a real village, a sincere family atmosphere and runs suited to everyone. It's hard to get your stay wrong here.
🏔️ Grand Tourmalet – Pic du Midi
The largest ski area in the French Pyrenees, spread across both sides of the Tourmalet pass: Barèges on one side, La Mongie on the other. Barèges is a historic spa village whose waters already soothed the soldiers of Louis XIV; La Mongie, built in the 1960s, offers direct access to the runs and to the Pic du Midi. The latter is the ski area's unique attraction: a cable car up to 2,877 m, a century-old astronomical observatory, and an off-piste descent with 1,700 m of vertical drop for experienced skiers. The Tourmalet is also the most frequently used mountain pass in the history of the Tour de France.
