Based on the resort's altitude and historical snow reliability
Ladurns is a low-key resort on a modest scale: 18 km of runs for an intimate skiing experience, far from the bustle of the big resorts. This is where people come in search of calm, authenticity and no queues at the lifts at all. Ladurns' family reputation is well deserved: dedicated beginner areas, well-groomed green runs and a friendly atmosphere at the foot of the lifts. It is one of the most reassuring resorts in the Northern Alps for laying the foundations of skiing with children. Its altitude (1,140 m at the bottom, 2,030 m at the top) helps it keep decent snow cover through the depths of winter. January and February are the most reliable months; in December and March, it's worth checking conditions before finalising a booking. A stay in Ladurns is clearly on the expensive side: lift passes at 57€ a day, plus accommodation and mountain restaurants that are among the priciest in the Alps. It's the price of excellence, but be aware of it before setting off. In short: Ladurns doesn't compete with the giants of skiing, and doesn't pretend to. It's an honest, often underrated destination that deserves to be (re)discovered.
