Based on the resort's altitude and historical snow reliability
Lachtal is a low-key resort on a modest scale: 26.2 km of runs for an intimate skiing experience, far from the bustle of the big resorts. This is where people come for calm, authenticity and no queues at the lifts. Lachtal's family reputation is well deserved: dedicated beginner areas, well-groomed green runs and a friendly atmosphere at the foot of the lifts. It's one of the most reassuring resorts in the Northern Alps for getting children started on skiing. Lachtal's altitude (1,600 m at the base, 2,222 m at the top) allows it to maintain decent snow cover in mid-winter. January and February are the most reliable months; in December and March, it's best to check conditions before finalising a booking. The budget for a stay in Lachtal is clearly high: 59€ for the day pass, plus accommodation and mountain restaurants among the most expensive in the Alps. It's the price of excellence, but you should be aware of it before setting off. In short: Lachtal doesn't rival the giants of skiing, and doesn't pretend to. It's an honest, often underrated destination that deserves to be (re)discovered.
