Based on the resort's altitude and historical snow reliability
A resort on a human scale, Hinterstoder – Höss focuses on the quality of its welcome and its closeness rather than on impressive figures. Its 39.9 km of runs are a good fit for a stay of 3 to 4 days, especially for families or skiers who don't need to keep changing their playground. Hinterstoder – Höss's reputation as a family resort is well earned: dedicated beginner areas, well-groomed green runs and a relaxed atmosphere at the foot of the lifts. It is one of the most reassuring resorts in the Northern Alps for laying the foundations of skiing with children. Hinterstoder – Höss's altitude (600 m at the bottom, 2,000 m at the top) helps it maintain decent snow cover in mid-winter. January and February are the most reliable months; in December and March, it's worth checking conditions before finalising a booking. A stay at Hinterstoder – Höss is clearly on the expensive side: 60€ for a day lift pass, plus accommodation and mountain restaurants that are among the priciest in the Alps. It's the price of excellence, but you should be aware of it before you go. In short, Hinterstoder – Höss doesn't compete with the giants of skiing and doesn't pretend to. It's an honest, often underrated destination that deserves to be (re)discovered.
