Skiing in the Jura: the forgotten mountains of the French

✍️ SnowFinder Editorial📅 February 2025⏱ 5 min read

Wedged between the Alps and Switzerland, the Jura suffers from an unfair image problem. Yet it offers honest, affordable skiing and landscapes of a cold, mineral beauty.

Métabief Mont d'Or, the benchmark

The largest resort in the massif, with 40 km of runs. Family Plus label, and views of the Alps on clear days from the Mont d'Or at 1,463m. A must in the Jura.

Les Rousses, the Nordic paradise

200 km of cross-country trails, 4 linked communes... Les Rousses is THE hub of French Nordic skiing. The alpine skiing is also of good quality, in a preserved setting.

Budget

Expect to pay 20 to 26€ for a day lift pass. Accommodation is 2 to 3 times cheaper than in the Alps. The Jura remains the most accessible mountain range in France.
